Week 3 Update
The Application of Broken Pieces
Using a metaphor to invoke a deeper thought process towards healing. Giving a person a viable application and reminder of how their brokenness can be repaired can be a life altering gift. It can show a person that if we put forth the work through passion and understanding we can end up not only restored, but more unique, resilient and useful than ever before.
We all know of the Japanese technique, Kintsugi, a 400 year old art form used during a time when vessels were too hard and expensive to come by that the broken vessels needed to be repaired instead of replaced. In Kintsugi the brokenness and scars of the piece are highlighted and proudly shown. This type of art form has brought a powerful application that can help others understand that their scars, their pasts, their very existence isn’t lost. That their life doesn’t have to be discarded. That their existence is desired and very much needed within a world full of people with seen and unseen scars that need to know the same truths and healing. You can become that whole vessel and retain the truths and and inspiration for many within your own healing. By strategically putting the pieces of our body, mind and spirit back together - welding them close and tight with precision and care we can become the greatest gift to another struggling to see how being whole again, is not only possible but incredibly useful within this world of the broken people.
Leaving the fractures visible for spectators to see and even talk about can bring forth a dialog of healing. It gives us the opportunity to share with another the hopelessness we too once felt. It has its own power because people can physically see that it can be accomplished. It gives the soldered vessel a chance to share the work that went into the mending. It takes on an entirely new form of expression and path to understanding - that brokenness is still a choice. It shows that the outcome of repairing a broken vessel may not look like an undamaged piece of art, but instead it’s truly unique and remade with purpose and sacrifice. It’s a conversation starter. It’s a testimony of survival and hope too many. It shows another that you can become a powerful person within a broken world.
I've been honored to complete 2 of these Broken Pieces Canvas with 2 lovely - powerful women. Both of these ladies will be pivotal in the growth of this venture. Most likely everyone who reads these blogs has felt brokenness in one way or another. What steps did you need to take to feel whole again? I hope to make this a special time with each person that comes to this, creative mission community. A time set apart to sit, reflect, talk and reassemble broken pieces in order to give each a reminder what it took to restore their brokenness.
I encourage anyone to use this powerful application within your youth or small groups or just with a friend you know is struggling. There's revelation in the creation process. There's understanding in the conversation. There's further application and understanding when the piece is seen up on a shelf months and years later.
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement! Be safe, well and blessed!
